Cross Country Teams Finish Fifth and Eighth at Fisher Invitational

NEW WILMINGTON, OHIO – The Hiram College cross country teams competed at the annual Fisher Invitational today (Saturday, Sept. 4) hosted by Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa. The Terrier men placed fifth, while the women finished eighth. [Men's Results] [Women's Results]
The men totaled 139 points to place fifth overall out of 10 teams. Grove City (Pa.) College won the event with team score of 50 points. Alderson Broaddus (W.Va.) College was second with 67 points and Franciscan University rounded out the top three teams with 79 points.
Individually for Hiram, junior Joe Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) paced the Terriers with a time of 26:58 and placed seventh overall out of 103 total runners. Sophomore Chris Pratt (North Canton/Hoover) was second with a mark of 28:52. Fellow sophomore Bryan Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) recorded the third fastest time for Hiram completing the 8k race in a time of 29:02. Freshman Forrest Reed (Seven Hills/Normandy) posted the fourth best time of 29:11 and sophomore Brendan Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) rounded out the top five times at 29:25. Also competing for the Terriers was senior Nicholas Michalenko (Moon Twp., Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) who ran a time of 31:05 and was followed by freshman Sam Ivcic (Maple Heights) who had a time of 32:47. Freshman Manpreet Grewal (Parma/Normandy) completed the race in a time of 33:12. Junior Don Daley (Chagrin Falls/University School) and senior Zach Wegman (Knoxville, Tenn./Bereon) completed the list of competitors with marks of 33:47 and 37:11 respectively.
The women finished the event with 230 points to place eighth overall of 10 teams. Grove City also capture the women’s team title with 32 points. Franciscan was second at 36 points and Alderson Broaddus rounded out the top three with 80 points.
Freshman Laila Almassri (Parma/Normandy) posted the top individual effort for the Hiram women with a time of 26:28 and placed 25th overall out of 118 total runners. Senior Lindsay Kuhn (Canfield) was second with a mark of 28:37 and freshman Clarissa Claflin (Mayfield/Mayfield Heights) was the third to complete the 6k race in a time of 29:58. Sophomore Megan Orosz (Mentor/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) was the fourth Terrier to cross the finish line and posted a time of 30:09. Senior Brianna Andrie (Perry) was fifth at 31:10 followed by sophomore Natalie Richardson (McConnelsville/Morgan) with a time of 31:12. Senior Bristena Marinescu (Arad, Romania/Moise Nicora College) rounded out the scoring times at 31:18. In addition, freshman Carly Kidner (Ashtabula/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) ran a time of 31:53 and was followed by sophomore Elizabeth Haase (Akron/Firestone) who crossed the line in a time of 32:02. Senior Rachael Bisker (Plain City/Milford Center Fairbanks) completed the course in a time of 32:17 while sophomore Amy Morton (Tacoma, Wash./Sav) and sophomore Emily Smith (Wellsville/Southern Local) rounded out the Hiram competitors with times of 32:22 adn 35:21 respectively.
The Hiram cross country teams will compete at the Walsh University Ric Sayre Invitational next Saturday, Sept. 11 in Canton. The day is scheduled to begin at 9:40 a.m.

Cross Country Teams Compete at Season-Opening Wooster Invitational

WOOSTER, OHIO — The Hiram College cross country teams officially began the 2010 season today (Wednesday, Sept. 1) at the unscored College of Wooster Invitational in Wooster. [Women's 5k Results] [Men's Four Mile Results] [Men's 5k Results]
The Terrier women competed solely in the 5k race with freshman Laila Almassri (Parma/Normandy) recording the fastest individual time for the team of 24:15.50 and placed 23rd out of 32 total runners. Sophomore Megan Orosz (Mentor/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) finished second on the team with a mark of 26:31.20. Senior Brianna Andrie (Perry) was third at 27:07.70 and freshman Clarissa Claflin (Mayfield/Mayfield/Heights) was fourth in a time of 27:17.40. Rounding out the top-five times for Hiram was senior Lindsay Kuhn (Canfield) with a time of 27:36.60. Also competing for Hiram was sophomore Natalie Richardson (McConnelsville/Morgan) and freshman Carly Kidner (Ashtabula/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) who posted marks of 28:11.10 and 28:54.40 respectively.
The men had competitors in both the four mile and 5k races. In the four mile, Hiram was led by junior Joe Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) who turned in a time of 22:41.48 and finished 11th of 35 runners. Sophomore Bryan Nemire crossed the finish line second for the Terriers, competing the course in a time of 24:06.67. Freshman Forrest Reed (Seven Hills/Normandy) had the third fastest time at 24:13.34. Sophomore Brendan Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) posted a mark of 25:03.59 and senior Nicholas Michalenko (Moon Twp., Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) rounded out the top-five with a time of 27:44.75. Also competing for Hiram in the four-mile run were freshman Sam Ivcic (Maple Heights) and junior Don Daley (Chagrin Falls/University School) who turned in times of 27:51.04 and 29:39.92 respectively.
The Hiram men also had two competitors compete in the 5k run in sophomore Aaron Andzelik (Chautauqua, N.Y./Chautauqua Lake) who finished in a time of 22:54.45 and fellow sophomore Chris Pratt (North Canton/Hoover) who recorded a time of 22:54.50.
The Hiram cross country teams will be in action this weekend when they compete at the Westminster (Pa.) Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 4 in New Wilmington, Pa.

Cross Country Teams Compete at NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Meet

TERRE HAUTE, IND. — The Hiram College cross country teams competed at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Meet today (Saturday, Nov. 14) hosted by the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind. The Terrier men placed 31st of 36 teams, while the women placed 32nd out of 34 teams. [Men's Results] [Women's Results]
The men totaled 834 points to place 31st overall. Calvin (Mich.) College took top team honors with 73 points, followed by Heidelberg College in second with 94 points. Rounding out the top-three teams was Manchester (Ind.) College with 150 points.
Individually, sophomore Zach Eshelman (Corona, Ariz./Cienega) posted the fastest time for the Terriers at 28:06 and placed 117th overall out of 248 total runners. Fellow sophomore Joe Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) was the second fastest with a mark of 28:08. Freshman Chris Pratt (North Canton/Hoover) was third to cross the finish line for Hiram with a time of 29:18. Freshman Brian Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) recorded a time of 30:19 and junior Nicholas Michalenko (Moon Twp., Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) had a time of 30:48. Senior William Brown (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier Central) was sixth with a mark of 31:10 and freshman Brian Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) rounded out the scoring times for Hiram at 32:11.
The Terrier women finished the event with a team-total of 1,037 points to place 32nd overall. Calvin came in first in the team standings with 50 points. Oberlin College was second with 120 points and Case finished third at 130 points.
Senior Katie Eppley (Stow) paced Hiram with a time of 26:59 and finished 175th overall out of 231 total runners. Freshmen Natalie Richardson (McConnelsville/Morgan) and Kara Vantaggi (North Royalton) were the second and third Hiram competitors to complete the course with marks of 30:21 and 31:01 respectively. Junior Lindsay Kuhn (Canfield) and freshman Megan Orosz (Mentor/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) finished back-to-back with times of 31:19 and 31:21.

DELAWARE, OHIO — The Hiram College cross country teams competed at the 2009 North Coast Athletic Conference Championships today (Saturday, Oct. 31) hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. The men totaled 283 points to finish 10th out of 10 teams. Allegheny (Pa.) College won the men’s title with 25 points followed by Wabash (Ind.) College in second with 82 points. Oberlin College rounded out the top three teams with 85 points.
Individually, sophomore Joe Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) recorded the fastest time for Hiram with a mark of 28:12 and placed 36th overall out of 109 total runners. Sophomore Zach Eshelman (Corona, Ariz./Cienega) was second to cross the finish line with a time of 29:27. Freshman Chris Pratt (North Canton/Hoover) was third in a time of 29:49 and senior William Brown (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier Central) was fourth at 30:48. Freshman Brian Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) recorded the fifth fastest time at 31:01 and sophomore Nicholas Michalenko (Moon Twp., Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) was sixth with a time of 31:28. Rounding out the scoring times for the Terriers was freshman Brendan Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) who completed the course in a time of 32:10.
The Hiram women ended the event with 281 total points to place ninth out of nine teams. Oberlin was first with 33 points, followed by Wittenberg University in second with 76 points. Allegheny was third with 82 points.

Freshmen Megan Orosz (Mentor/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) and Natalie Richardson (McConnelsville/Morgan) finished back-to-back with marks of 30:38 and 31:59 respectively. Junior Lyndsay Kuhn (Canfield) was fourth to complete the course for the Terrier women with a time of 33:31. Freshman Kori Page (Bradford, Verm./Oxbow) placed fifth on the team at 33:55 and freshman Elizabeth Haase (Akron/Firestone) completed the list of competitors for Hiram with a mark of 37:10.
Hiram will next compete at the annual NCAA Division III Regional Meet hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, Nov. 14.

Leading the way for the men was sophomore Joe Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) who placed ninth overall with a time of 23:07. Sophomore Zach Eshelman (Corona, Ariz./Cienega) was the second to cross the finish line for Hiram with a time of 23:34. Freshmen Chris Pratt (North Canton/Hoover) and Bryan Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) finished back-to-back with marks of 24:00 and 24:07 respectively. Junior Nicholas Michalenko (Moon Twp., Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) posted the fifth quickest time for the team at 25:09. Freshman Brendan Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) recorded a time of 26:07 followed by freshman Getachew Hatsey (Tema, Ghana) who had a time of 28:33. Rounding out the Hiram competitors for the men was freshman Don Daley (Chagrin Falls/University School) who finished the course in a time of 31:11.

OBERLIN, OHIO — The Hiram College cross country teams competed at the Oberlin College Invitational today (Saturday, Oct. 17) in Oberlin. The Terrier men placed in a tie for 25th place overall and the women finished 25th. [Men's Results] [Women's Results]
The Hiram men finished the event with 797 points and tied with Buffalo State for 25th place overall out of 28 schools. New York University won the team title with 53 points followed by Allegheny (Pa.) College in second at 56 points. Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University rounded out the top three with 98 points.
Individually, sophomore Joe Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) paced Hiram with a mark of 26:51 and placed 95th overall out of 245 total runners. Fellow sophomore Zach Eshelman (Corona, Ariz./Cienega) was second to cross the finish line in a time of 28:00. Freshman Chris Pratt (North Canton/Hoover) recorded a tie of 29:10 while freshman Bryan Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) was fourth at 29:44. Freshman Brendan Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) was fifth with a time of 30:18 and junior Nicholas Michalenko (Moon Twp., Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) recorded a time of 30:26. Rounding out the Hiram competitors was senior William Brown (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier Central) with a mark of 31:23.
The Hiram women totaled 831 points to finish in 25th place out of 25 teams. Johns Hopkins (Md.) University won the overall event with a team-total 62 points. Case was second at 105 points and host school Oberlin was third at 128 points.
Senior Katie Eppley (Stow) led the way for the Hiram women with a time of 27:16 and placed 162nd overall out of 220 total competitors. Sophomore Zipporah Kirubi (Elyria/Midview) recorded the second fastest time at 27:44 and freshman Natalie Richardson (McConnelsville/Morgan) was third to cross the finish line in a time of 29:12. Freshman Orosz (Mentor/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) was fourth at 29:14 followed by fellow freshman Kara Vantaggi (North Royalton) who posted a time of 29:42. Junior Rachael Rhodes (Elyria/Midview) and junior Meghen Broman (Akron/Ellet) rounded out the Hiram competitors with times of 31:06 and 31:41 respectively.
Hiram will next compete at The College of Wooster Relays which will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

PITTSBURGH, PA. — The Hiram College cross country teams competed at the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational today (Saturday, Oct. 10) in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Terrier men placed ninth, while the women placed 13th overall. [Complete Men's Results] [Complete Women's Results]
The Hiram men finished with 257 points to place ninth overall out of 14 teams. Host school Carnegie Mellon won the event with 29 points.
Individually, freshman Zach Eshelman (Corona, Ariz./Cienega) paced Hiram with a time of 27:42 and placed 36th overall out of 153 total runners. Sophomore Joe Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) had the second fastest time with a mark of 27:46. Senior William Brown (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier Central) was third to complete the course for Hiram in a time of 29:45. Freshman Chris Pratt (North Canton/Hoover) was fourth at 29:50 and freshman Bryan Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) was fifth with a time of 30:31. Rounding out the scoring times for the Terrier men was junior Nicholas Michalenko (Moon Twp., Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) and freshman Brendan Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) with times of 30:31 and 31:00 respectively.
On the women’s side, Hiram totaled 396 points to place 13th of 13 teams. Carnegie Mellon also captured the women’s team title with 54 points.
Individually, senior Katie Eppley (Stow) led the way with a time of 23:33 and placed 87th overall out of 158 runners. Freshman Megan Orosz (Mentor/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) was second to cross the finish line for the Terriers in a time of 24:26. Freshman Kara Vantaggi (North Royalton) was third at 24:55 and fellow freshman Natalie Richardson (McConnelsville/Morgan) was fourth with a time of 25:06. Junior Lindsay Kuhn (Canfield) posted the fifth fastest time at 25:52 and freshman Kori Page (Bradford, Verm./Oxbow) recorded a mark of 26:59 to place sixth on the team. The final scoring time for Hiram was turned in by junior Meghen Broman (Akron/Ellet) at 27:14.
The Hiram cross country teams will compete next Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Oberlin College Invitational in Oberlin. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

The Hiram men placed third of nine teams with 95 points. Grove City (Pa.) College won the team title with 26 points and Thiel (Pa.) College was second at 46 points.
Individually, Hiram was led by sophomore Joe Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) who completed the course in a time of 28:40 and finished fifth overall out of 88 total runners. Sophomore Zach Eschelman (Corona, Ariz./Cienega) was second with a mark of 29:49, followed by senior William Brown (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier Central) in a time of 30:37. Freshman Chris Pratt (North Canton/Hoover) posted the fourth fastest time for the team at 30:48 and freshman Bryan Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) rounded out the scoring times with 30:58.

DELAWARE, OHIO — The Hiram College cross country teams competed at the annual All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University today (Friday, Oct. 2) in Delaware. The Hiram men ended the meet with 537 points to place 18th of 20 schools. Ohio Northern University finished first in the team standings with 65 points, followed by Heidelberg College in second with 66 points. Oberlin College finished third with 124 points.
Individually, sophomore Zach Eschelman (Corona, Ariz./Cienega) paced Hiram with a mark of 30:13 and placed 87th overall out of 145 total runners. Freshman Chris Pratt (North Canton/Hoover) was second with a time of 31:03 followed by fellow freshman Bryan Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) in a time of 31:28. Senior William Brown (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier Central) crossed the finish line fourth for Hiram with a mark of 32:12. Rounding out the Terrier competitors was freshman Brendan Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) and junior Nicholas Michalenko (Moon Twp., Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) with times of 32:22 and 38:09 respectively.
The Hiram women finished with 683 points and placed 21st of 21 teams. Case took home the team title with 70 points, followed by Oberlin in second with 94 points. Baldwin-Wallace College was third at 134 points.
Individually, Hiram was led by senior Katie Eppley (Stow) who had a time of 25:08 and placed 132nd overall out of 145 total runners. Freshman Megan Orosz (Mentor/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) completed the course with the second fastest time of 26:43. Freshman Natalie Richardson (McConnelsville/Morgan) was third at 27:27 and freshman Kara Vantaggi (North Royalton) was fourth in a time of 29:03. Completing the list of competitors for Hiram were juniors Lyndsay Kuhn (Canfield) and Rachael Rhodes who posted times of 29:50 and 31:33 respectively.
The Hiram cross country teams will return to competition tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 3) at the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg Invitational in Greensburg, Pa.
