Head Swim Coach Jack Groselle Featured in Swimming World Magazine
April 5, 2010
HIRAM, OHIO – Hiram College head swimming and diving coach Jack Groselle was featured in a story in the March edition of Swimming World Magazine.
Groselle, a 1976 graduate of the College, was a four-year member of the swim team as a student and was a NCAA Division III National Champion in the 50-yard freestyle in addition to being a two-time All-American. He was also a multi-time conference champion.
In the article, Coach Groselle talks about his time competing as a student-athlete at Hiram, including some of his accomplishments competing in Masters swimming as well as some of the challenges he has faced throughout his career. Groselle recently completed his 19th overall season as the head swimming and diving coach at Hiram. So far during his coaching career, he has earned a total of five Coach of the Year Awards (one North Coast Athletic Conference and four Ohio Athletic Conference). Below is an excerpt from the article:
‘Groselle says coaching has given him a unigue perspective on his own swimming career: “You’re mentally thinking all the time when you’re talking to your swimmers,” he said. “I understand on a day-to-day basis how the swimmers are feeling.”
That same kind of camaraderie with teammates that Groselle encountered in his collegiate days has kept his competitive fire burning and motivated him to continue training and competing well into his 50s.
Groselle’s individual accomplishments in the pool have translated into what has so far been a stellar coaching career. In 2002, he was recognized as the NCAC Men’s Coach of the Year. Additionally, Groselle has been recognized as the OAC Coach of the Year on four separate occasions.’
