Men’s Soccer Beats Saint (Pa.) Vincent

HIRAM, OHIO  –  Junior All-North Coast Athletic Conference forward Ryan Minick (North Royalton) scored a pair of goals as the Hiram College men’s soccer team defeated Saint Vincent (Pa.) College, 3-0, at the Charles A. Henry Field in Hiram.  [Game Stats]

With the shutout, the Terriers improve to 5-1-1 overall and the Bearcats fall to 1-7-1 overall for the season.

Hiram scored the opening goal of the game at the 14:34 minute mark with Minick’s first goal and an assist from junior midfielder Austin Cook (Hudson/St. Vincent-St. Mary) to give the Terriers the early 1-0 lead.  The remainder of the period remained scoreless and Hiram took its one-goal advantage into the intermission.

Minick recorded his second goal of the contest, and team-leading sixth of the season, just over three minutes into the second half on an unassisted marker during the 49th minute to extend the lead to 2-0.  Cook added to his earlier assist with a goal of his own on a deflection off of a Saint Vincent defender at the 60:59 mark to end the scoring as Hiram went on to capture the 3-0 victory.

Junior Joe Rottinger (Strongsville) started the game in net for the Terriers and played all 90 minutes to pick up his fifth win of the season and improve to 5-1-1 overall.  The win was also his third shutout victory of the season.

Hiram will travel to Delaware for a NCAC game against Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday, Sept. 30 as part of a soccer doubleheader with the Terrier women’s team.  The women will face the Battling Bishops at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m.
